Nomed Restom

Stevy was running through a field of brass grass and glass flowers with ruby petals. As he ran through the tall grass Stevy stalked all the other animals in the field. Where three eyed flies flew and yellow fish with twelve fins swam. Deer with three heads grazed and wolves with purple fur howled. Here where life felt free and safe.

However that was all just a sad lonesome dream. For Stevy’s task in life was one thing and one thing only: to feed the Great Metallic Mother.  You see monsters are not born here in Nomed Restom but rather created. Within the center of this large world rests a great machine that will squeeze out large play-dough like globs out of a tube. These globs are then cut and molded to make up the shape of the monster. Each monster is then tested for endurance and durability. Those who fail this test are then order by the machine to be incinerated. Throughout the entire process the monster is conscious and alive, feeling ever single cut and push that is delivered to it by the machine.

The monsters refer to this machine as the Great Metallic Mother and in order for their species to survive they must continue to feed it. Some of the monsters would be sent out to retrieve the food for their mother while others rested in large liquid filled cylinders dreaming and waiting for their time to search for food. These tubes held monsters of all shapes and sizes.

Now it was Stevy’s turn. He could feel the vibrations of his tube as it was being lifted out of the rack by large metal arms and lowering it to the central platform. With his eyes closed he could still feel and his tube landed on the platform and as smaller suction tubes attached to it. The green fluid that flowed around him began to drain as the suction tubes hummed to life. As the very last drop of the green liquid was drain from his tube Stevy opened his eyes. Before him on the platform was a portal that would send him to another world where he would have to gather food for the Great Metallic Mother.

The Great Metallic Mother fed off of the dreams of little children. The absence of such dreams would often result in the child suffering nightmares or in some rare cases night terrors. These dreams could sate the hunger of the Great Metallic Mother for days or sometimes even weeks if the dreams were ripe enough. By taking the portal a monster would be teleported to the child’s room from various entries such as from: under the bed, through the window, or even through the closet door.

Beside the portal stood a Dream Catcher, a high ranking monster assigned to insure that everything went as it was supposed to.  This monster resembled a limbless scarecrow made of living tissue with large spider like legs branching off of its back. Stevy’s shark like body looked like a cute toy when compared to the terrible fierceness of the body that the Dream Catcher possessed. As Stevy stepped out of his tube the Dream Catcher approached him.

“Welcome back Stevy,” The Dream Catcher spoke, “glad that you awoke well from your long slumber. We have an important assignment for you.”
The Dream Catcher handed Stevy a folder. Inside was information on the child that Stevy would be harvesting the dreams from. Stevy opened the folder and began to read the Intel. The child was a young girl named Emma who lived in a room with one closet, a large window, and one door. The girl apparently had a fear of spiders as well as any shapes coming from her closet. So that would probably be the best way for Stevy to enter the room from when exiting the portal. The file also showed that there had been many dreams successfully harvested from her in the past by other monsters.

“So are you ready for your assignment?” The Dream Catcher asked while presenting a foreboding smile full of sharp teeth. Stevy nodded and gave the folder back to the larger monster who tucked the file underneath its elbow. He was ready for this task even if it saddened him that right after this mission Stevy would be place back inside the tube and be forced to sleep once again until his tube number came up and he was sent out on another assignment. Well, if this was his chance to live outside of a tube then Stevy might as well make the best of it.

Taking a deep breath Stevy stepped through the portal. Blue and green lights assailed his vision as Stevy sailed through the portal; it felt as if he was being pulled through a large vacuum. Then suddenly everything went pitch black. As Stevy’s eyes adjusted the glowing green spots on his body began to pop up on his body illuminating his location. He was in a small tight room full of cloths on hangers. This must be the closet that the Great Metallic Mother had whispered to him as he had slept in the tube.

Using his four fingered hand Stevy felt for the door knob and after finding it he slowly turned it. As the door opened he peeked in. Under the white sheets of the bed Stevy could see the shape of the young girl where she breathed peacefully from her dream. This would be a ripe dream to harvest indeed.

Stevy slowly snuck out of the closet and stepped past some of the toys lying on the floor. One resembled a small animal with long pointed ears and round button eyes. Stevy would have to be very careful as any of these items could be have a microbe that could cause a pandemic back in Nomed Restom. It had happened before when another monster had touched a child’s toys, when few days after he returned all the monsters in his tubing rack became ill. In order to prevent the illness from spreading the Great Metallic Mother issued that the entire rack be incinerated.

As Stevy stepped closer to the little girl’s bed he noticed the large window that had been mentioned in her file. It was large and oddly enough had been placed above the beds head rest. What was also bizarre about it was that Stevy could see himself in its reflection. In the window he resembled a shark with arms and legs, which made Stevy appear formidable and it gave him the confidence that he would be able to harvest this child’s dream.
Stevy then looked back at the closet door from which he had come. The portal was gone now but he knew that as soon as he had finished harvesting the girl’s dream that it would reappear and Stevy would be able to return to his home.

Looking at the bed Stevy was shocked to see that the bed sheets had moved aside. Where had the little girl gone? Stevy looked at his feet to see the little girl looking back up at him. She wore pink pajamas that had images of cute little ponies dancing on them. Her black hair came down and covered her eyes like a certain. In a horrible manner the girl’s hidden eyes looked up at Stevy.

“You are not supposed to be here.” Emma said as she glared up at the monster, “My daddy said that nothing is supposed to live in my closet. That if I was ever to see anything that scared me came out of my closet that I was supposed to face me fear and kill it!”

Suddenly the closet door slammed shut all on its own trapping the monster inside the bedroom. Stevy tried to run back to the door to open it and tripped over the stuffed animal on the floor. As he reached for the door knob Stevy felt invisible hands lifting him up off the floor. He was then flung across the room and smashed into a bookshelf. Books tumbled off the selves to the floor below. His vision blurred as terrible pain shot up his spin.
Then he was flung across the room again and slammed into a wall. His eyes watered and his bones ached. He was flung around the room a few more times and when it finally stopped Stevy found that he was being suspended above the child’s bed. How? He didn’t know for he couldn’t see what it was that was holding him in the air. The pressure of invisible tendrils sent crushing pain through Stevy’s nerves.

Stevy looked down at the young girl as if to ask her how or why she was doing this to him. He wouldn’t get the chance to ask for the last thing he would remember was the pain he felt as his body was torn apart in mid-air and the girl looked on. Emma glared at Stevy’s remains with eyes hidden behind her black hair as the monster’s organs fell to the floor.

---Through the Window---

Dr. Gram watched through the two-way mirror as the daughter of his partner Dr. Lean tore the strange creature to pieces. Where this creature had come from did not matter. Only the success mattered and Emma was indeed a success.

“Where do you suppose that creature came from?” Dr. Lean asked.

After lighting a cigarette and taking a breath Dr. Gram replied, “I don’t know my colleague but truth be told it doesn’t really matter now does it!”
“What do you mean?”

“Your daughter has shown that your trust in her skills were not in vain. She is indeed a telekinetic individual and will be very useful in our rivalry against Evol Corp.” Dr. Gram said as he began to leave the examination room, “We should begin the next phase of the experiment.”

“Are you sure? She is only a child.” Dr. Lean protested.

“Dr. Lean,” Dr. Gram spoke, “If you are so worried about your daughter being a mere child then why did you bring her here to the Omega foundation?”

“Indeed,” an automated voice spoke from a nearby computer console, which revealed that the speakers name was Dr. Glassmare, “Why didn’t you consider that when you already knew what we would do to her if she had proven to be a success?”

From the look on Dr. Lean’s face Dr. Gram could tell that his associate was utterly speechless. Had he seriously not considered what would have happened if there had been a success with his daughter as a test subject? What a foolish father, how unbelievably foolish of him.

“Dr. Lean,” Dr. Gram retorted, “I don’t understand why you complain like this. After all ever since we began the tests you haven’t even addressed your daughter by her actual name. Surely you must have predicted that this day could come?”

Dr. Lean signed. In truth he knew what Dr. Gram had said was true. That he had alienated himself from his one and only daughter just in case she actually proven to be telekinetic. But now despite his efforts Dr. Leah didn’t care what they said. Emma was his daughter and he would do anything to protect her.

“I will stop you!” Dr. Lean said abruptly, “I won’t let you hurt my little girl!”

“What makes you think you can?” Dr. Glassmare’s masked voice spoke over the computer terminal.

“IT DOESN’T MATTER!” Dr. Lean yelled, “SHE IS MY DAUGHTER AND I AM GOING TO TAKE HER AWAY FROM HERE!”

“I am afraid I can’t let you do that Lean.” Dr. Gram said and then suddenly a large sound reverberated throughout the room. Then suddenly Dr. Lean fell to the floor. It was then he noticed the smoking hole in Dr. Gram’s laboratory coat pocket. Then Dr. Lean lost consciousness.

“It is a shame my friend,” Dr. Gram spoke as he stood over Dr. Leah’s body, pulling the still smoking gun from his lab-coat, “I was hoping we both could see the day that your daughter rings in the new era where the Omega Foundation controls all of civilization. Where we both would have been hailed as gods! However you just had to let your feelings for your daughter get in the way.”

Then two security guards entered the room and removed the body of Dr. Lean from the observation room.

---Initiation - December 3rd 2009---

Emma looked one final time into her old bed room. This would be the last time she saw it for soon her Uncle Mr. Gram was going to take her to a special place where she could learn more about her “talent.”

“Hello there Emma,” the secretary named Kim said as she walked into the room, “are you ready to leave now?”

Emma nodded. Despite the fact that her father had disappeared recently Emma was sure that with good friends like Kim she might be able to live happy at this new special place. As Emma began to leave she looked back one final time into her old room, when she noticed something strange about the closet door. It was open a jar and Emma could have sworn she saw a multitude of various eyes looking back at her for a second only to be gone a second later. Good Emma would’ve hated to have to kill something in front of Kim.

“Is something wrong?” Kim asked.

Emma turned back to the secretary and smiled, “Yep. Everything is just fine.”

So here is another story I have been working on for the Insandied series. What actually inspired me to make this story was this altered image I had of the ending scene of Monsters Inc. It then made me think of what Creepypastas may have been made for Pixar's Monsters Inc. However after a long search the only thing I found were some youtube videos all of which were readings in other languages. So I decided to write this story down but in my own little universe and as I did the story kind of grew on its own.

Another thing you may notice is that Kim makes a startling return since her reveal in my previous story Happy Jerry. This is because as shown above this story takes place in 2009, about 4-5 years before the events of Happy Jerry. Which means that Kim probably will not show up again but that Emma may show up in future stories.

Thank you all for reading this story. If you have any feedback please comment and let me know.
